Falsified Medicines Directive (FMD) Software - Action Required

To All End Users of the UKNI Medicines Verification System (UKNI MVS)

Notification of Change

  • In April 2022, the UKNI Medicines Verification System (UKNI MVS) will roll out a new release for Northern Ireland, which requires a change in the software and scanner system you use to connect to it.   Your software supplier, has been informed of this upcoming change and should have implemented the relevant changes to update their End User software, for continuation of your access to the UKNI MVS.

Action Required by April 2022

  • We advise that you check with your software supplier to ensure you have the updated version of your FMD software installed at your location, in order that you can continue scanning medicines and remain compliant with FMD.  You should ask your software supplier to confirm that your NMVS software is compatible with NMVS Core 1.10.

If your software and scanner system is not up to date, when the new system is rolled out, you will no longer be able to access the UKNI MVS, and therefore will not be able to remain compliant with the FMD regulation in Northern Ireland.

The UK, in respect of Northern Ireland, is committed to meeting the requirements of the EU FMD safety features Delegated Regulation, and the MHRA expects all stakeholders in the supply chain to comply with these requirements.
