SecurMed UK has been set up as a joint venture by the pharmaceutical industry associations representing branded manufacturers, generic manufacturers, parallel distributors, large wholesalers and community pharmacies.
National Competent Authorities: DHSC and MHRA
The Department of Health & Social Care (DHSC) is the UK government department responsible for all healthcare. It is made up of 28 agencies and public bodies responsible for health and social care. DHSC act as the guardians of the health and care framework ensuring the legislative, financial, administrative and policy frameworks are fit for purpose and integrated. DHSC works with the devolved government administration in Northern Ireland to ensure FMD is implemented consistently for United Kingdom in respect of Northern Ireland.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) is responsible for medicines, medical devices and blood products regulation for the whole of the UK, including Northern Ireland. MHRA are responsible, together with DHSC, for the supervision of SecurMed UK to meet its’ regulatory obligations under the EU FMD & Delegated Regulation for the UKNI Medicines Verification System.
IT Service Provider
Arvato Systems are the IT Blueprint Service Provider for the UK. SecurMed and Arvato Systems came together in July 2018 for the provision of the UK MVS and from January 2021 the provision of the UKNI MVS.
